その後もJR西日本からの正式な発表はありませんが、2012年春までに山陽新幹線から100系車両が引退することが報道されています。100系は1985年に東海道・山陽新幹線でおなじみの白地に青帯の「白青塗装」で登場し2階建ての食堂車を含む16両編成で活躍しましたが、2000年以降は順次4両・6両編成化され、現在はグレーのベースにフレッシュグリーンの帯を巻いた短編成の「こだま」として走行しています。この6両編成の100系のうち3編成ががデビュー当時の「白青塗装」で再登場するそうです。すでに塗装変更の工事が開始されており、7月下旬に最初の編成が運転を開始する予定です。
Media reports said 100 series will retire by the spring of 2012 and JR West said nothing officially. 100 series painted in white and blue debuted in 1985 and has been operated as 16 cars trains. But they were shortened to four or six-car after 2000 and are running as Kodama trains with kelly green-colored belt on a gray background now. JR West released that three of six-car 100 series trains will be back in white and blue. The cars are now being repainted and the first one will come back at the end of this July.
