東海道・山陽新幹線を走るすべての列車は、東京にある新幹線総合指令室で集中管理されています。地震などの災害で東京の指令室の機能が損なわれた場合には、大阪の第二総合指令所が列車を制御します。毎年、この列車制御の切り替えを訓練として実施されているそうですが、2009年は12/05に1日限定で第2総合指令所からの列車制御を行うそうです。
12/04の終電後に東京の指令室から大阪の第二指令所への切り替えを行い、12/05は始発から終電までを第二指令所で制御します。翌12/06には再度切り替えを行って東京の指令室からの制御に戻すとのこと。実際に新幹線に乗っていれば気づく変化は何もないはずですが、その「いつもと同じ新幹線」を支える指令室には試練の一日となりそう。12/05の新幹線を利用するなら、そんな舞台裏に思いをはせてみるのもよいかも。

When the center lose its function in the event of a disaster, the vice control center in Osaka will work as a fallback. The switching of train control between Tokyo and Osaka is taken as a training every year. Inthis year 2009, the vice center in Osaka will control trains on December 5.
The changeover of control from Tokyo to Osaka will be taken after the last train of December 4 and the center in Osaka will control trains all day of December 5. The second changeover will be taken on December 6 and the Tokyo center will get back the directve function. While passengers on Shinkansen will not recognize any changes, it will be the testing day for the staffs who are supporting the normal operation of Shinkansen.
