JR西日本の各エリアでは、年末年始の指定券について通常の発売日に先立ち事前申込を受け付けます。もちろん、対象期間内であれば行きと帰りの両方の指定席を同時に申し込むこともできます。各エリアで事前申込の受付期間が異なりますのでご注意ください。
京阪神エリア

JR West said that they will accept advanced application of tickets for travel in the winter holidays. If the travel dates are in the holiday period, both tickets for outward and return are purchasable at one time.
Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe Area
