山陽新幹線の新大阪～姫路間で、2010年3月からトンネル内でも携帯電話での通話やデータ通信が可能になります。利用できるようになるのはNTTドコモ、KDDI、ソフトバンクモバイル、イー・モバイルの4社のネットワーク。
トンネル内でのアンテナ整備は、東海道新幹線では2003年3月に東京～新大阪間で完了しており、山陽新幹線では今回が初のケース。アンテナの整備を行う社団法人移動通信基盤整備協会は、今後も山陽新幹線区間で順次整備を進めていく方針だそうです。
なお、N700系車内での無線LANによるインターネット接続は、利用する回線経路が今回整備されるアンテナとは異なるため、ひきつづき東京～新大阪間でのサービス提供となります。
Verbal and data communications on mobile phones in tunnels will be available between Shin-Osaka and Himeji from March, 2010. The networks which will be connectable are of NTT DoCoMo, KDDI (au), Softbank Mobile, and EMOBILE.
Antenna installation for tunnels were completed between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka by March, 2003 and the installation reaching Himeji will be the first one from Shin-Osaka and to the west. Japan Mobile Communications Infrastructure Association said they are going to continue installing within Sanyo Shinkansen line.
Meanwhile, the providing zone of the internet access by wireless LAN service in series N700 cabins will have been restricted within Tokaido Shinkansen between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka, because its communication method and equipments are different from the antennas for the mobile communication.
