JR Central, JR West and JR Kyushu reported seat availability of Shinkansen trains during Golden Week period from April 26 to May 6.

JR Central reported 1.90 million seats have been already occupied at the night of April 10. They provide 3.97 million seats for reservation and it is about 47.9% of them. They said many seats still remain except busy hours. JR West reported 1.08 million seats are booked against bookable 2.14 million (about 50.3%) and JR Kyushu also reported 0.17 million seats are still reserved against 0.35 million (about 47.3%).

But the reservation tickets have sold around 160% faster than last year. It means seats in advantageous trains are sold rapidly so you are strongly recommended to book trains if you have plans to go during the period.

The peak days of crowding will be April 27 for outbound trains and May 5 for inbound ones on Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen. The days of Kyushu Shinkansen will be April 29 for both outbound and inbound trains.
